The Crazy Neighbors

Just a quick tidbit.

Today Jodie was outside and the neighbor lady came up to her and said that she was scared someone was stealing copper from the side of her house and she called the cops.

What copper is on the side of your house other than the copper in the wires that connect your phones?

Turns out it was real windy the other day and the cover to her cable line blew off so she thought some one was messing with it.

She is CRAZY.

The Neighbors

I haven’t spoken about the neighbors on ‘with moxie’ because, 1 we have been gone for 5 weeks and 2 I was hoping that they had moved out by the time we returned, no such luck.

First a little background. Struggling family of 7, renting the 5 bedroom house next door. They are Jewish, and originally from Maine. The wife, who is 45ish, stays home and ignores the kids and plays her video games, and the husband, who is 65, is an RN who does home health care, when not doing that he plays his video games. The kids are 7 (B), 8 (B), 10 (G), 12 (G), & 14 (G). All the kids have some form of ADD and are on medication. The father is a grumpy old man, mad at life who drives around with the Handicap placard hanging from the rear view mirror. (I believe it is a mental handicap in his case)

We have stories about them that could fill pages from not letting the kids play the 2 video game consoles they have, his and hers, to getting cats and not letting the kids see them, to the chained up refrigerator because the kids would go and eat the food.

Today’s boiling point:
I was in the garage putting up our new Garage Door opener, and hear the regular screaming that I associate just another day at the neighbors. When the second youngest girl and her friend are riding their bikes by and say hi to moxie, saying that the dad is hurting the oldest daughter. So I probed some more, at which point the screaming kept increasing. So i rushed over to see what was going on.

The garage door was open and this old man had his 14 year old daughter pinned between the door to the house and the wall while holding on to her arms twisting them. She was screaming, mom he’s hurting me to no avail, so I simply stood in the driveway and asked ‘is there a problem?’ Alan says ‘Yes there is,… uh, no there isn’t’. I replied that he needed to take his hands off his daughter, to which he replied ‘Mind your own business’ I said ‘then I will call the police’.

I called 911 and reported it. Two squad cars came out and interviewed the girl, Alan was gone by the time they got there. I found it interesting, that the entire time they were there the mom kept screaming at the other kids and threatening them with grounding’s etc. Gave a real good show to the cops.

I’m not sure what they got out of her but i asked one of the girls afterwards if she and her sister were ok and she said yes and knew I was just trying to make sure they were safe. Kids that age shouldn’t have to worry about neighbors looking out for them and being safe. that is what parents are for, to keep kids safe and to protect them.

One last thing, she is a 14 year old girl, so I am guessing that what she did was some stupid rebelous teen thing to do, you are going to get that, but why would anyone lay a hand on their kids? Like that teaches them anything? Actually it does, that it is okay to lay your hands on another human being, which it isn’t.

It reminds me of one time when we were at the mall and this mom didn’t like what her 2 year old was doing so she slapped her hands and said ‘NO’. I asked jodie if i could go up to the lady and smack her on the hands and say ‘NO’ and see if she would stop doing that or even get it? Jodie said i couldn’t.

Anyway, real nice neighbor’s, we have to get out of here but until we go, I’m going to keep a close eye on those kids and to their stories.
