This weekend I will run in my first 5K. Jodie and I were going to do it together but we have lost our babysitter. One is on a ‘Mission from God’ in Pennsylvania and the other is running in the 5k. So, Jodie and Mox get to watch and root me on.

It’s been an exciting week here without Lauren. I took the break to work on the make over of the bathroom. Come over to The Prairie Box to take a look at the progress. In my next entry I will share my emergency room visit. :)

The weekend before last Jodie, Moxie and I went downtown Chicago and used a groupon and did the night bike tour with Bobby’s Bike Hike. It was awesome, we started at North Pier (AKA River East Arts Center) and went north up to Lincoln Park, then down to Trump tower through Rush and Division area, then over through the Loop to Millenium Park, over to Buckingham fountain, Down and around Soldier Field, up to the Shedd Aquarium and finally back to North Pier. It was 9 miles in all and I thought we were going to have a problem as we got to North Avenue Beach, Mox says “I wanna go home”. But she did wonderfully and we had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Here are some pictures.

Green River (Chicago Must Do)

This last weekend we went with my sister and niece downtown to see the annual dying of the Chicago river. It’s one of those must do’s in the Chicagoland area that a lot of people fail to do. We took the train down and got to the river a little after eleven. They use this vegetable based almost florescent green dye that just glows.

Next we went to a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant called Wow Bao that serves these incredible Bao’s. a Bao is a hot asian bun with a filling. You have to try them, they look plain and simple but are so delicious.

Next we went back up to the river to walk down to Michigan Avenue, on the way we walked along the river walk and ran into a couple of crazy guys who decided in their infinite alcohol influenced wisdom that they should strip to their skivvies and try to swim across the green river. One made it and the other did not and was swiftly rescued and detained by the Chicago police.

The gentlemen that was detained faced a full day in jail and a fine from $400-$500.

Next we took a stroll up Michigan Avenue to Water Tower Place and had lunch at Food Life which is another Lettuce Entertain You invention. Its a food court but they seat you and you have a reserved seat so you don’t have to worry about walking around with a tray of food with no where to go. They have everything from Chinese, to Barbecue, to sushi, to soups to hot dogs. And everything was delicious. Finally we picked up a couple of pieces of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake to go so we could enjoy them for our anniversary.

We finally made our way back down Michigan and back to the train station. It was spitting rain all day long but was still very enjoyable. It was amazing how far Moxie was able to walk, at the end when we were a couple blocks from the train station she finally stopped and said “daddy my legs are broken” and I had to carry her the rest of the way.

It was a wonderful day.
